Huntingtons Chorea

Seating someone with Huntington's Disease can be very challenging. Individuals often experience loss of control over eating and speaking and are at severe risk of choking during eating. Extreme, uncontrolled spastic movements of the limbs and hyperextension of the body continue until the latest stages of the disease when the individual may become extremely rigid.

It is important to provide a durable, stable chair that offers proper positioning for comfort and fall prevention, as well as protection against the resident from injuring themselves.  Positioning for feeding is also important.

A Broda chair can help accommodate many of these issues. In mid to late stage HD, a 785 Elite Tilt Recliner with HSP (Huntington's Special Padding) is recommended.

With up to 38° of tilt and 90° of recline, the 785 is ideal for containment and pelvic positioning. The back recline helps accommodate hyperextension. The tilt and recline are infinitely adjustable, allowing for numerous positioning options to help prevent falls.

Broda’s Comfort Tensoin Seating™ and the tilt and recline creates exceptional resident comfort, helping to create a calming effect.

An ideal solution for residents with Huntingtons' Disease, or severe agitation, is Broda's HSP Padding package upgrade. It offers additional support and protection, keeping the resident safe and comfortable. The HSP padding also helps to prevent resident injury as it covers a great deal of the frame.

Exceptinoal stability of Broda chairs helps maintain resident safety. For very extreme cases, we offer a custom extended base length for additional stability.

Our gas springs help absorb the shock of aggressive movements, so that the chair moves with the resident, thus helping to prevent injury.

Offering incredible durability with a 16-gauge tubular steel frame, Broda chairs are built to last.
